Good Questions To Ask At My Yearly Physical?

With the new year coming, it may be the time of year to schedule your annual physical. It is highly recommended to visit your doctor at least once a year to make sure that you are in good health. Here is a list you can ask your doctor the next time you come in for a visit:

1. What type of vaccines should I take?

Vaccines are not just for children. As an adult you may need certain vaccines to protect your immunity. Ask your doctor if they recommend and specific vaccines, such as a flu shot.

2. Am I at a healthy weight?

Being overweight can put you at risk for many diseases such as diabetes or heart disease. Make sure with your doctor that you are at a healthy weight. If not, discuss with your doctor about ways to lose excess weight.

3. How are my cholesterol levels?

Ask your doctor if you are consuming enough healthy fats, or if you should be concerned about your dietary needs. It is important to consume the right amount of healthy fats in order to keep your cholesterol levels at bay.

4. Do I still need to take my medication? Are they still relevant?

You don’t want to spend your money on medication that you don’t need. Over time, our bodies can react differently to medications we take over time. Ask your doctor if you still need the medication you are on.

5. Do you recommend any specific screenings?

Based on age or gender, you may need to receive a specific screening. For example, if you are a woman aged 45 to 54, a yearly mammogram is highly recommended to screen for breast cancer.

6. Am I at a risk for a certain disease due to my family history?

By looking at your family history, your doctor may be able to detect symptoms early on and provide preventative measures before the condition worsens.
